Tugs was an amazing series shown at the end of the 1980’s and early 1990’s on Children’s ITV in the UK. Created by Robert D. Cardona and David Mitton using what they had learned from making Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. It’s a great shame that this series, which had huge worldwide acclaim with versions in many languages such as Japanese.

The Star Tugs Pier (http://sodor.proboards77.com) and various fan sites stand as a testament to the creativity and success of the series.

Many children’s series are lacking what Tugs had. It educates children in morals and ethics, which are only portrayed in the occasional blockbuster animated films like The Lion King and the occasional series like Babar. There was a strong message to the series, which carried certain magic, which was strong and heartfelt, staying in people’s hearts. The sister series, Thomas and Friends is fast running out of material, whereas the flame of Tugs which was one of only a hand full of live action animation series still burns strongly in peoples hearts.
